EPIC HOCKEY FIGHT: When Foreign Relations Go Bad – Canada vs The USSR

Forget the Berlin Wall, Team Canada defeats communism with a few fists to the face of an over-matched Soviet squad. The benches cleared, and the brawl featured twelve separate fist fights and a head butt that broke the nose of a Canadian player. Things got so out of hand that the referees (all three of them) left the ice and tournament officials turned off the arena lights in hopes that the players would give up. In the hours after the incident both teams were disqualified from the tournament. Twenty years later people still hail the incident as a victory for democracy.
