What Was Donovan McNabb Expecting, Penalty Kicks?

17 Nov

What’s worse?

Philadelphia Eagles’ Donovan McNabb fumbling once and throwing three interceptions to the lowly Cincinnati Bengals in a 13-13 tie or admitting afterwards that he didn’t know an NFL game could end in a tie?

“I didn’t know that,” said McNabb, who just finished playing one of his worst games as a professional. “I’ve never been part of a tie. I never even knew it was in the rule book.”

Reporters at the post-game press conference were shocked. They were so stunned by McNabb’s ignorance they asked him the question again. In the end, the reporters learned the 10-year pro wasn’t kidding, nor was he trying to deflect from his team’s poor performance. McNabb was absolutely serious.

How can a professional football player not know a game can end in a tie?

Maybe being oblivious is why the Eagles are basically out of the playoffs with a 5-4-1 record. Maybe not knowing basic rules is why the Eagles are 0-4-1 in games decided by less than seven points.

Even when the Eagles were winning, many felt there was something “off” with the team. Now we know what it is. The Eagles aren’t very smart.
