Week 2 Pre-BCS Standings
15 Sep
Using a similar formula to the BCS, here are the standings for Week 2. Adjustments are made to replace elements that are not currently out. For instance, the Harris Poll has not had a poll released yet, until then, it will be replaced by the AP Poll. There are six computer polls, however, only four are out. Under normal circumstances, the highest and lowest rankings for each team would be dropped. Since there are only four polls out in public, no ranking will be dropped.
Without further delay here are the standings for Week 2.
1. Florida (0)
2. USC (+1)
3. Texas (-1)
4. Alabama (0)
5. Penn State (+1)
6. BYU (+5)
7. California (+2)
8. LSU (+2)
9. Ole Miss (-1)
10. Boise St. (+2)
11. Ohio St. (-4)
12. Oklahoma (+1)
13. Georgia Tech (+1)
14. Virginia Tech (+1)
15. TCU (+1)
16. Utah (+1)
17. Oklahoma St. (-12)
18. Nebraska (+2)
19. Cincinnati (+3)
20. Miami (FL) (NR)
21. North Carolina (-2)
22. Georgia (-1)
23. Houston (NR)
24. Kansas (0)
25. Missouri (-2)
Dropped Out: #18 Notre Dame, #25 Oregon St.
The standings for the first week solidified the top four from the rest of the teams. This week is no different. Alabama’s lead over Penn State is 0.0936, which is a HUGE lead. But among the top 4, #4 Alabama has a deficit of 0.0483 to #1 Florida. Thus the top 4 are bunched up.
In regards to the four computer polls, USC is ranked #1 by the Jeff Sagarin & Richard Billingsley polls. Florida holds the top spot in the Kenneth Massey. Finally, the odd poll of the bunch is the Colley Matrix, not only does it have Pittsburgh as the #1 team, but #1 Florida is not even ranked in the top 25 of that poll.
