Week 12 Recap and 3 Games
24 Nov
A few weeks ago, this appeared in my post.
“This is not looking to be a 2007 year. I realize that teams are falling left and right, but to me this is a year that is looking awful close to 2005. For those that don’t remember, there were three teams that pretty much stayed at the top the polls for a majority of the season: Alabama, USC, and Texas. Alabama fell off at the end, and USC and Texas met in an incredible Rose Bowl for the National Championship. Right now no one seems to be on the level of Texas, Alabama, and Florida.”
This quote was written by me on September 28ish. The reason I bring it up, is that so many people are saying they want their money back for a “boring” college football season. I don’t understand it, the job of every team is not to entertain the media, but to win. Anyway…
3 THINGS I LEARNED
1. Charlie Weis we hardly knew ye. The Fiesta and Sugar Bowl beatdowns that he received by Ohio State and LSU are long forgotten, the embarrassments at the hand of Syracuse and Navy rule the roost. Notre Dame has no decision, they must fire Charlie Weis, and they must hire a winner. Another dud hire could put into question Notre Dame’s national standing along with their independent and BCS status. Big offseason for the Fighting Irish.
2. Sorry Bronco fans, but I don’t see a way that your beloved Boise State gets into the BCS dance. Right now they have to out maneuver at least 3 of the following 4 teams: Oklahoma St., Penn State, Iowa, and Virginia Tech. All of those teams are BCS eligible. Also they must avoid Nebraska winning the Big XII. Just too many hurdles for Boise State to jump over.
3. My Heisman 5 (in order): Mark Ingram (Alabama), Colt McCoy (Texas), C.J. Spiller (Clemson), Jeremiah Masoli (Oregon), and Toby Gerhart (Stanford). Sorry Tim Tebow fans, but he just doesn’t have the Heisman look or stats this year. He still is a winner, and can have an grand impact, and may infact win the National Championship and SEC Championship, but not the Heisman.
3 GAMES TO WATCH – Rivalry Edition
#3 Texas at Texas A&M – Thursday, November 26 – ESPN – 8:00 pm EST
Don’t see the upset happening. The Aggies will be jacked up and they will last probably through the first half, but they don’t have the weapons to stay with Texas. Texas wins in a late blowout.
TEXAS 52 TEXAS A&M 21
#2 Alabama at Auburn – Friday, November 27 – CBS – 2:30 pm EST
Again I don’t see the upset happening. Alabama and Auburn both have nicely balanced offenses, but that is where the similarities end. Alabama has been battled tested against better competition and has a much better defense. Auburn has not been battle tested by good competition and their defense ranks near the bottom of the SEC. Alabama dominates in this win giving Nick Saban his first victory at Jordan-Hare Stadium (at Pat Dye Field).
Alabama 31 Auburn 10
Florida State at #1 Florida – Saturday, November 28 – CBS – 3:30 pm EST
Senior Day, Tebow’s last game at Florida, no way they will lose. Florida State will put up a fight and will keep this relatively close but no way does Florida lose.
FLORIDA 24 FLORIDA STATE 14
