Jet’s running back Thomas Jones stated in an interview Tuesday morning that “We’re a team and we win together … but at the same time, you can’t turn the ball over and expect to win,” and “The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that’s just reality, If I were to sit here and say, ‘Oh, man, it’s OK,’ that’s not reality. … I don’t like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn’t like it.” He also said that Brett jeopardized the whole team because of his mistakes and should have been benched. “To me, that’s not fair to everybody else. You’re not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it’s just not [fair].” Despite owner Woody Johnson’s backings, other teammates also came down on Favre. Kerry Rhodes said that when you play quarterback, you get a lot of the blame, and “If he’s dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way … and be here when we’re here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us … then I’m fine with it, But don’t come back if it’s going to be half-hearted or he doesn’t want to put the time in with us.” An Anoynomus Jets veteran claimed that Favre was very distant from the team all year, and said that “There was a lot of resentment in the room about him. He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone.”

My thoughts on this- Well, these players are right. #4 was the main reason for the Jet’s demise. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for the guy, but he’s just not good anymore. He’s way past his prime. However, I don’t condone what these players did. You just don’t bash teammates like that, all it will lead to is trouble for yourself and the team. What did they possibly think could come out of this that was positive? They’re lucky if nothing comes of this. All the blame game does is make you look like a jerk (see Tiki Barber), and cause locker room trouble. if Brett comes back next year (I don’t think he should though), this could lead to team problems. So why do it? All it was was stupidity. I don’t blame the players for being frustrated with him, but you just don’t say anything about it. It’s not the dumbest thing an athlete can do, but advice- just don’t throw your teammates under the bus.

Oh and there’s just one other problem with this- Favre is a living legend, he is the worst possible teammate you could bash. This is like when you speak out against your boss- he may have been the one who screwed up, but he’s just a guy you can’t blame. This could rub a lot of people the wrong way, and was completely unnecessary. Don’t fingerpoint, especially not when you are pointing at an NFL legend and grizzled vet.
