The 10 Greatest Final Fours in History
16 Nov
If there is one great thing about November, it’s that your long wait since last March is finally over. College basketball is finally getting started again and the new season just happens to coincide with the last 2 rounds of our World’s Hottest Athlete contest ending this week. Our Final Four will be revealed tomorrow. As such, we’ve compiled for you the greatest Final Fours known to the history of mankind so far:
10) 1957 NCAA Final Four

North Carolina wins their first NCAA basketball championship by beating Kansas 3OT. And this was back in the days before “neutral” sites were the norm, so they did it IN Kansas. Michigan State & San Francisco rounded out the foursome, with Wilt Chamberlain winning MOP.
9) 1984 Frozen Four NCAA Hockey Tournament

In a hard-fought tournament, Minnesota Duluth beat North Dakota in OT to advance. Bowling Green took out Michigan State to setup the championship game. Bowling Green wins an epic quadruple-OT battle to get the NCAA Hockey title. It’s the only 4 OT championship game to date.
8 ) Survivor: Borneo

Partial nudist and eventual tax evader Richard Hatch famously becomes the first person to not get voted off the island after finalists Sue Hawk and Kelly Wiglesworth found each other eliminated after Kelly’s betrayal of Sue. Rudy Boesch was eliminated with Kelly’s vote because he was considered a threat to win.
7) 2006 NCAA Basketball Tournament

George Mason shocks the world by making the Final Four as an 11-seed from a mid-major conference. They lose to the eventual champions, Florida. UCLA beat LSU in the other half of the bracket.
6) The Inaugural Season of The Apprentice

One of the greatest reality show phenomenons started off strong. Bill Rancic, Kwame Jackson, Amy Henry, Nick Warnock were the last interns standing. While Nick and Amy got fired after the interviews, Bill’s & Kwame’s managerial skills are tested by leading the previous losers, including Omarosa, to their tasks. Kwame got to lead Omarosa. Bill won.
5) American 4x100 Freestyle Relay in Beijing
The 4 guys to have the last word made sure the French paid for their bulletin board material. Michael Phelps, Cullen Jones and Garret Weber-Gale set up Jason Lezak to anchor the relay by coming from behind with the fastest 100m swim in history: 46.06, just fast enough to beat the French by 0.08.
4) 1993 NCAA Tournament

Chris Webber calls a timeout in the finals seconds of the championship game--except Michigan had no more timeouts, so he gave UNC the winning free throws. Calling a phantom timeout is forever called “pulling a Webber”. Runners up include Kansas & Kentucky.
3) The First Season of Flavor of Love

To weed out the finalists in Flavor Flav’s stable of cham, Flav slept with Goldie & Pumpkin on separate nights and decided to eliminate Goldie. Pumkin went out on a technicality when it was revealed that she had done an episode of Blind Date, and spit in New York’s face in a moment that will be remembered in reality tv history (NSFW language). That left New York and Hoopz. While Hoopz was officially the chosen winner, New York went on to get her own tv show.
2) 1985 NCAA Tournament

Little-known 8-seed Villanova shocks the world by taking out Memphis State and Georgetown to win the NCAA title. Nova’s Ed Pinckney becomes the eventual Most Outstanding Player. St. John’s was the other runner up.
