Rafael Furcal to the Red Sox? Just a Rumor…

4 Dec

Boston.com is reporting that the Red Sox are sneaking in on Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop (and much sought after I might add) Rafael Furcal… after all, the Red Sox have struggled at the SS position over the last several years (hello Edgar Renteria. Hello Julio Lugo.). Rafael Furcal sure would look good in Fenway Park – but I really do not see this happening and expect that he signs with one of the Bay Area teams: the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland Athletics.

Could the Red Sox be interested in Furcal?
According to the Globe’s Tony Massarotti, there have been whispers that the Red Sox are inquiring about shortstops, including free agent Rafael Furcal. The Giants and Athletics have been mentioned as contenders for Furcal, according to ESPN.com. Furcal’s agent, Paul Kinzer, told ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark that he doesn’t expect Furcal to sign before the winter meetings. Furcal missed all but 36 games last season due to a back injury. In his last healthy season, 2007, Furcal hit .270 in 138 games with 87 runs scored and 25 stolen bases.
