NFLPA wants their stats back.
5 Sep
That’s right all you fantasy football nutjobs out there. You know who you are, the guys who sit in bars on Sunday with your laptop and 10 TVs around you watching tons of football and caring little about the actual scores. You’re about to owe CBS good for keeping your obsession alive. In case you had missed it, the NFL Players Association has been threatening to sue groups like CBS Sportline who run major fantasy football sites. Why you may ask? The NFLPA claims they own the rights to statistics created by the play of players in their union. That 12 yard TD pass to Santana Moss last night that may have given you the points to pull out the win in Fantasy this week… the NFLPA wants it back, or at the very least they want CBS, Yahoo, and by extension you to pay for it.
But fear not, you fantasy junkies have a white knight pre-emptively fighting the good fight for you. The Columbia Broadcasting System’s online branch has decided to take the fight to the NFLPA rather than wait for the hammer to drop. CBS is suing the NFLPA in a bid to allow fantasy football to fall under the same rules as fantasy baseball where the stats aren’t subject to licensing any longer. So go tune into CBS while you’re adjusting your fantasy lineup tonight. Give them a little love for keeping your fantasy world alive.
