Going Forward, The 10 Most Valuable Fantasy Football Players

13 Oct

Going into the season, every blog in the country puts out some sort of Fantasy Football ranking. InGameNow wanted to call a time out and give our rankings for 10 most valuable players. We do not care where people were initially drafted, what we care about is the 10 best guys for the rest of the NFL fantasy football season.

10. Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys. Going into the year, I thought Dallas would win 14 games and walk into the NFC playoffs with homefield advantage. However, Dallas has lost a few games (i.e. Arizona) and will not be able to lose in week 16 and 17 and still have home field advantage. The NFC East is going to be a dog fight this year. Dallas will not rest their starters during the fantasy football playoffs. Expect Owens to be the best wide receiver going forward.

9. LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers. I am hesitant to include LT on this list. However, this is purely a playoff play. Any rational league has their playoffs in weeks 14, 15, and 16. LT faces Oakland in week 14 and Kansas City in week 15. If you make it to the playoffs, and have LT on your squad, expect him to be good for back to back games of 20+. However, this is a big if. Tomlinson has been a dud this year. Who knows if you can get to the playoffs with him.

8. Steve Slaton of the Houston Texans. What were the odds that Slaton would be ranked ahead of a healthy LT? Slaton was probably the best pick in this years fantasy draft. He has played in 5 games this year, scoring 17 or more points 3 times. Detroit, Cincinnati, and Cleveland are all on his schedule during the regular season. He is a must start week 11 against Indy. In their first matchup this year, Slaton scored 21 points against Indy.

7. Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. Romo should be the best QB in the league going forward. Owens, Witten, and Barber offer Romo too many weapons not to be included on this list. He is the best QB in the NFL when the game is not a “big game.” Dallas will not have a big game in the regular season. Romo may choke in January, but he should be solid for the next 2 months. (editors note….we just found out Romo is out for 4 weeks. We found this out 20 minutes after the post went up. What can we say, we are not smart!)

6. Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears. Forte has had a huge season so far for Chicago. His weekly point totals are impressive for both a Bears running back and a rookie (21, 11, 20, 8, 17, 16). Kyle Orton and Devin Hester have improved greatly this season, taking some of opposing defences attention. Forte should be able to put up great numbers going forward.

5. Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints. Outside of a horrible game against San Francisco, Bush has been on fire this season. He has been a triple threat this season, with success in rushing, receiving, and as a return man. Going forward, he should have an easier time when Colston returns from injury. Bush could be a scoring machine when New Orleans faces Atlanta in the first week of the fantasy playoffs (week 14). I would rank Bush even higher in a points per reception league.

4. Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers. Jets, Dolphins, Rams. Those are Gore’s opponents in week 14, 15, and 16. He will single handedly carry a team through the fantasy playoffs. Nobody has been more consistent than Gore.

3. Ronnie Brown of the Miami Dolphins. Brown was slow out of the gates in week 1 and 2, but this was expected. He returned from serious season ending surgery last year, and needed time to get back to 100%. While 4 td, 41 point games are unlikely in the future, Brown should continue to get better, offering tremendous upside potential.

2. Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons. Think fans in San Diego are frustrated that the Chargers did not keep Turner? Week 1, Turner rushed for 220 yards and 2 td’s. The entire city of San Diego threw up. Matt Ryan and Michael Turner made Hotlanta forget Ron Mexico. Turner has two major things going for him. First, he is has a significant amount of NFL experience. Second, his legs are fresh. He did not get many carrys with the Chargers. His fresh legs should keep burning teams this season.

1. Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins. Portis is coming off back to back to back 100 yard games. If he was in NBA jam, the announcers would say “hes on fire!” Portis faces Cincinnati in week 15 and Philadelphia in week 16 (the fantasy football superbowl week). Portis killed Philly already this season, rushing for 145 yards and a TD.
