Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State vs. Texas

7 Dec

It has been decided that the Big 10 and Big 12 Conferences will match-up in the January 5, 2009 Tostito’s Fiesta Bowl. The Big 10 will send the Ohio State Buckeyes to match up with the Texas Longhorns, who probably missed out on the National Championship game after Oklahoma edged them out to be the Big 12 South’s representative in the Big 12 Championship game yesterday.

Ohio State, which finished the season 10-2, is led by the athletic Terrelle Pryor at quarterback. This freshman ignited the teams offense and had 1,245 yards passing and 553 rushing during the season. Pryor also added 18 combined TDs and only 4 interceptions. In the Buckeye backfield, Pryor is joined by Chris Wells who had 1,091 rushing yards, 8 TDs, and 5.7 yards per carry average.

The Longhorns have an ax to grind. They had to watch the Big 12 Championship game, knowing that the only way they were going to the BCS Championship was if Missouri upset the Sooners. As the Sooners quickly dispatched the Tigers, Texas has to settle on having a Fiesta. The Longhorns finished up the season 11-1, losing only to their rivals from Texas Tech. Heisman candidate, Colt McCoy, leads the Burnt Orange with 3,445 passing and 576 rushing yards. He also had 42 total touchdowns against 7 interceptions. The Buckeye defense will need to step it up against this Big 12 offense!
