7 Dec
Texas Tech, the team that could be blamed for the lack of Texas, was rewarded with a bid to the AT&T Cotton Bowl and a matchup against Ole Miss. The Cotton Bowl airs on January 2, 2009 at 2 pm.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders finished their season in the tough Big 12 by going 11-1. Their only loss came to the Big 12 representative to the BCS Championship game, Oklahoma. Otherwise, this high-flying offense is led by by senior quarterback Graham Harrell who had 4,747 yards and 41 touchdowns. Baron Batch and Shannon Woods added a good running game to the mix, combining for 1,412 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The Mississippi Rebels won their last 5 games to finish the season 8-4. This included a 31-13 victory over LSU in the second to last game of the season to show that they belong in a bigtime bowl. The Rebels have had closer games than the Red Raiders, but their offense shows flashes of brilliance just the same. Jevan Snead has had a solid sophomore season with 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns. Three runningbacks each had over 440 yards rushing to spread the load.
