Big Ten Girls Know Football Like I Know Organic Chemistry
25 Aug
As a current student at UGA with roots deep in SEC sports, I have been engaged in the SEC vs. Big 10 debate for some time now. The rivalry extends beyond football and touches on tailgating, downtown atmospheres and alumni. I haven’t tailgated at a Big 10 school, but I have tailgated at several SEC schools, including FL, Auburn, and TN. The SEC rivalry is stronger than ever before, as the SEC is the most competitive conference out there. We defend our schools like they are our family, but at the end of the season, come Bowl time, we unite as one to defend and conquer. (i.e. LSU/OSU). I hate biased facts as much as the next Georgia fan (thanks to Florida) — BUT — when it comes to SEC vs. Big 10 match-ups, SEC takes the cake with a 33-20 lead!
Like I said, I’ve never been to a Big 10 game, but if you’ve been to a game in the south, you know the atmosphere at a game can’t be beat anywhere in the country. In Athens, the girls and guys dress up in day dresses and bow ties to show respect for the players. Thousands of Alumni come out and tailgate like its going out of style (which it never will. Amen.) I know a few students at Big 10 schools and the girls are generally as knowledgeable about their team as I am about Organic Chemistry. However, in the southeast, girls and guys alike know their stuff. Bottom line, the SEC lives and breeds athletics.
