Best Beards of Sports – Part 3 of the Best Sports Facial Hair Playoffs

13 Sep

We have seen the mustaches and gotees of athletes, with some very interesting, unique interpretations of those facial hair styles. But what about the cream of the crop – the Full Beard Division? These guys either have incredible facial hair genes or just don’t care what people think.

But we do care what YOU think, so be sure to log onto InGameNow and cast your vote for the Best Beards of Sports. The leaders will go against the Best Staches and Best Gotees in the Finals of the Best Sports Facial Hair Playoffs! So here are the contenders, in no particular order:

Mike Commodore – Any man willing to grow a beard and an afro as a redhead deserves some respect. Actually, maybe it is just hockey defenseman! Sorry, Carrottop! Mike chose to shave his mop after the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals for charity.

Johnny Damon - We have no idea if Johnny was trying to look like some historical figure or provide evidence for the missing link. Damon has had a great career with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and now the New York Yankees. Even when that fades, however, he can grow back this flowing hair and thick beard.

Jim Kern – Kern probably should have shaved, but apparently just didn’t care. As a 3-time All-Star during his 13-year career, we hope that Jim had enough money for a good razor. By the look of the rest of his hair, maybe he just hated his barber.

Lyle Alzado- What can be said about Lyle Alzado? His play was as intense as that look in his eyes in this picture. And his beard wasn’t too shabby either. Unfortunately, Alzado passed away at 43 from complications of a brain tumor. He though was the first major athlete to admit steroid use publicly.

Bruce Sutter – By the way this picture looks, we are lucky to see any of Bruce’s face! Sutter was a relief pitcher for the Cubs, Cardinals, and Braves and participated in 6 All-Star Games. He was also the 1979 National League Cy Young Award winner, and a major competitor in this contest!

Baron Davis – Baron Davis has moved on from his job in Oakland with the Golden State Warriors. However, we hope that we have not seen the last of his beard that ages Baron by about 10 years.

Jake Plummer – During his time with the Denver Broncos, Jake “The Snake” slowly became Jake “The Mountainman.” After he was replaced by Jay Cutler as the latest quarterback to try to replace John Elway, Plummer was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jake refused to report and disappeared into Idaho where this beard may hide him from the Bucs.

Drew Gooden – Not many men can pull off the bald head and full, bushy beard. I will let the female audience let us know if Drew can. Otherwise, Gooden has provided a solid presence under the basket for several teams during his NBA career.

So you have seen the Staches and the Gotees. Which one of these contenders have the ability for their Beard to take them to the finals? Vote Now at InGameNow:
