BCS Bowls Outlook Week 3
4 Nov
Florida (BCS #1 & SEC Champion) vs. Texas (BCS #2 & Big XII Champion)
Alabama fans don’t have a panic attack, for organization purposes, since Florida is #1 I will deem them the SEC Champion for the time being. Anyway, as the BCS Stands right now this would be the National Championship Game.
Alabama (BCS #3) vs. Cincinnati (Big East Champion)
Since Alabama is #3, they are automatically in the BCS, due to them being not a conference champion but being #3. They would the be replacement selection for Florida for the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl picks last in the bowl selection rotation, they will be forced to select Cincinnati since they are automatically in the BCS.
TCU (Non-BCS Conference Automatic Bid) vs. USC (At-Large)
TCU right now is in the top 8, and a conference champion, thus they are given the lone Non-BCS Automatic Bid. They will be passed by the Fiesta Bowl for their replacement pick for Texas, instead they will choose USC, due to close proximity and higher attraction value for the Fiesta Bowl. (Sorry Boise State, but facts are facts). But when the Fiesta Bowl gets the second pick after the Orange Bowl, they will choose TCU over Cincinnati.
ACC Champion vs. Penn State (At-Large)
The ACC once again is pathetic, thus whomever wants the ACC Championship will get the bid to the Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl will get the first pick after the Sugar and Fiesta Bowls replace Florida and Texas. With that they have to choose from either of the two remaining automatic bids of TCU and Cincinnati, or they can choose from the lot of at-large teams. Those would be Penn State, Boise State, Pittsburgh, and Utah. No question they will chose Penn State.
Oregon (Pac-10 Champion) vs. Iowa (Big Ten Champion)
Pac-10 and Big Ten Champs are automatically tied to the Rose Bowl.
That is how everything looks now, the problem that I have with people saying Boise and TCU will be in the BCS, is that we assume the bowls are in it for the spirit of the game. That’s false, they hope that the game will be good, but they are in it for the $$$. Boise State just doesn’t cut the mustard in terms of a money maker for the BCS. The only way that both TCU and Boise State get into the BCS is that Penn State, USC, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, all find themselves outside the top 14. If that happens the Broncos would go to the Sugar Bowl.
