Allen Iverson’s Hairstyles Match the News-Makers
5 Dec
A fresh cut is like the icing on a cake. It comes in so many styles and flavors that the right one can top off the perfect look. So it comes as no surprise that an image-conscious trendsetter like Allen Iverson comes with plenty of toppings. He’s always known for his fros and cornrows. We at IGN have found 4 favorites, as AI tends to reflect the news makers of his time:
The cornrow-hawk:

Don’t be fooled by this picture. It looks like Iverson is only halfway through getting his hair done, but its actually done. This combination of cornrows and afro appears to be Iverson’s urban take on the mohawk. As a representative of Philly for so many years, this style was meant to undo the damage created by Freddie Mitchell.

Da Brat:

Because AI is a natural leader of men, he can be androgynous without sacrificing his alpha qualities or masculinity. Yet his major shortcoming comes in his skill as a rapper. To compensate, The Answer twists up his locks to let you know who is the NBA’s funkdafied diva. Despite looking like Da Brat, his actual lyrical skill still leaves much to be desired.

The Shoe Bomber:

Some days you just go dirty. One such day is when you scare the hell out of your neighbors while searching for your wife. In the summer of 2002, just ten months after 9/11, he was charged with “terroristic threats”, which is probably a fancy way of saying he looked too much like the Richard Reid.

The Basic Fro:

Don’t be fooled–this puffed out look takes a lot of meticulous care. Besides getting out of bed and making sure it’s the right shape, you have to take a minute to make sure it stays untangled. While a staple among black folks, other celebrities have successfully pulled off this look, including Richard Simmons, Phil Spector, and Hair Bear (who, being a cartoon, arguably may supposed to be black given how he rolls with a posse).
